On January 15, 2024, the Scientific Conference on Underwater Cultural Heritage was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The event focused on research projects related to the discovery and preservation of underwater cultural heritage, as well as the application of geophysical methods in underwater investigations. The conference explored global perspectives on submerged cultural assets, with delegates discussing contemporary techniques for surveying and excavating underwater sites, the importance of capacity building, and sustainable management practices.
Dr. Nayden Prahov, Director of the Center for Underwater Archaeology, presented the application of geophysical methods and research in Bulgarian underwater archaeological investigations.
The conference brought together researchers and experts in the field of underwater archaeology from 14 countries, including the USA, Spain, the United Kingdom, Argentina, Italy, Denmark, Slovenia, Mexico, South Korea, Egypt, Algeria, Lebanon, Bulgaria, and Australia. It served as a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of underwater cultural heritage, contributing to its broader understanding and preservation.
