Zdravka Georgieva worked as an archaeologist at the Center for Underwater Archaeology (CUA) between 2015-2019. In the period 2019-2020 she was curator at the museum “Ancient Nessebar”.
PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS AND EXPERIENCE
Zdravka has extensive experience as part of the CUA team – she has participated in a number of underwater excavations of a post-medieval shipwreck in Chernomorets, submerged prehistoric settlements in the Bay of Ropotamo River and Sozopol, submerged harbour and fortress structures of Nessebar. She has also taken part in international projects, including the maritime archaeological project “M.A.P. Her research interests include the study of boats from prehistory to the late Middle Ages, and of maritime iconography through the application of modern photographic methods of documentation and digital preservation. She led a three-year project aimed at recording medieval ship graffiti in Nessebar churches. Their subsequent study became part of her PhD thesis under the supervision of Prof. Jonathan Adams, which began in 2020 at the University of Southampton, when she was awarded the Hristina Angelova Studentship, part of the further education program of the “M.A.P. Black Sea” project.
