Pavel Y. Georgiev is a PhD candidate at the Center for Maritime Archeology at the University of Southampton, UK. In 2019, he graduated with a master’s degree in “Archaeometry” at the Department of Archeology at the Faculty of History of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. Since 2017, he has been working as an underwater archaeologist at the Center for Underwater Archeology in Sozopol. During his career, he has been the manager of projects with an interdisciplinary focus, with the use of multiple devices for searching and documenting underwater cultural heritage, as well as the deputy manager of complex underwater archaeological studies on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

The topic of his doctoral thesis is the submerged prehistoric settlements at Ropotamo and Sozopol and their contribution to the 4th millennium BC. In addition, his scientific interests are the use of innovative technologies in archaeological practice to increase productivity and quality in the study, preservation and presentation of the global cultural heritage. Possesses considerable knowledge and skills in the digitization of objects and field situations, in particular with the use of photogrammetry.

He has many participations in international projects and conferences, both in Bulgaria and abroad. Leads courses in photogrammetry for beginners and advanced, as well as general lectures on underwater archaeology as part of the Scientific Diving courses.

He has been involved in diving since 2013 and since 2014 has a degree as a scientific diver, and since 2018 he has been an instructor in the CMAS system. From the diving association IANTD he has the following certificates: Advanced Nitrox Diver – 2022, Rescue Diver – 2023 and Trimix Gasblender – 2024 to CMAS.
