EDUCATION

Nayden Prahov graduated with bachelor’s (2003), master’s (2007) and doctoral (2013) degrees in the Department of Archeology at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. In 2012 he specializes in the Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies at the University of Arkansas, USA. His doctoral thesis is: “Interdisciplinary methods for paleoenvironment reconstruction and predictive modeling for underwater archaeological site identification”.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

From 2020, N. Prahov is the director of the Center for Underwater Archeology (CUA). Since 2015, he is Assistant Professor in the “Interdisciplinary Studies and Archaeological Map of Bulgaria” Department at the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. In the period 2013 – 2015, he worked as an archaeologist in the CUA. He is a co-founder of the Balkan Heritage Foundation, where he worked as program director from 2009 to 2020.

PROFESSIONAL INTERESTS AND EXPERIENCE

His scientific interests are related to the historical change of coastal areas and the development of coastal societies, spatial analyses, predictive modeling, paleoenvironmental studies, methods and practices in underwater archaeological research.

Nayden Prahov participated as a director or a team member in a number of archaeological surveys – the sunken fortresses and harbors of Nessebar, the sunken Bizone, the historical harbors near Sozopol and the bay of the Ropotamo river, the prehistoric settlements in the South Kiten Bay, the bay of the Ropotamo river and Sozopol, the shipwrecks at Chernomorets, Atliman Bay, Chengene Skele Bay and Cape Urdoviza. He was part of the team of the international maritime archeology project “Black Sea MAP”.
